Welcome to MaisonMargiela/folders
Conceived by our team to explore the ideas and values that shape us.
Through an exploration of physical and digital archival materials, four house codes are brought into focus across a series of exhibitions and experiences taking place throughout China in April 2026. The project will begin with our Fall–Winter 2026 show in Shanghai.
The four selected house codes are: Artisanal, our couture line; Anonymity, the concealment and creativity through our masks; Tabi, our split-toe shoe collected by a global community; and Bianchetto, our white overpaint technique part of our creative language.

ARTISANAL:
Our Creative Laboratory Exhibition, Shanghai, April 02-06
The exhibition presents Artisanal, our couture collection and the foundation of our creative language. It refers to the pieces made by hand by our team, and represents the origin of our way of working. The exhibition in Shanghai gathers 58 Artisanal looks from 1989 to 2025, presented together for the first time. The looks are divided into themes that reflect our ongoing couture explorations- upcycling, deconstruction, trompe l’oeil, archetypes, raw materials, and the transformation of the everyday.

ANONYMITY: Our History of Masks Exhibition, Beijing, April 07-12
The exhibition gathers for the first time in the history of the brand 46 new and archival masks spanning from 1989 to today. Presented at Zhengyici Peking Opera Theatre in Beijing, the curation traces how Anonymity, one of our foundational principles, has continually shaped our visual vocabulary. Through variations in material, colour, form and inspirations, these masks question the notion of identity and redefine it as a creative language.

TABI: Collectors Exhibition, Chengdu, April 09-13
For the first time, we bring together 9 Tabi collectors from around the world to present their personal archives, including rare and distinctive pairs. Each collector exposes a recreation of their wardrobe, the setting of their personal Tabi collection, combining full-scale photography with a selection of original and unique pairs on display. The exhibition also includes our Maison Margiela Café, where rare archival pieces from our internal collection will be on display.

BIANCHETTO: Atelier Experience, Shenzhen, 11-12
In Shenzhen, Bianchetto, our white overpaint technique that leaves visible brush strokes and transforms surface into a blank canvas, is presented through an immersive atelier experience where participants are invited to transform an item from their own wardrobe, guided by the Maison Margiela Atelier team. Through the act of covering the surface in white paint, the piece is transformed into a Maison Margiela house code.

The development of MaisonMargiela/folders can be accessed globally as our internal Dropbox folders used by our team to store images, project timelines, press releases, and working documents, made public for the first time.
As the project evolves, new files will be added, revealing further information about the experiences and documenting the journey from concept to exhibition.
