Maison Margiela Line 2 at Maison Margiela Tokyo

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of our first flagship Maison Margiela Tokyo Ebisu at 2-8-13, we present a Line 2 installation on view at the store from 5-15 November.

“UNRAVELLED MEMORY, REWOVEN FUTURE”

Line 2 is our initiative for creative dialogue. For this instalment, Tokyo-based artist Mio Suzuki and historic French tapestry manufacturers Les Manufactures Nationales– Sèvres & Mobilier national collaborate to create an artwork that explores themes of deconstruction, time, and memory through tapestry, titled ”UNRAVELLED MEMORY, REWOVEN FUTURE”.

本インスタレーションのために、「Les Manufactures Nationales – Sèvres & Mobilier National」はパリでアンティークおよび特注製作（シュールメジュール）のタペストリー59点を選定しました。その一部はフランス各地の蚤の市で蒐集されたもので、およそ400年前にまで遡る作品も含まれています。それらは鈴木氏のもとへ届けられ、3か月以上にわたり、それらを一本一本丁寧に解きほぐし、再び織り上げることで新たな作品へと生まれ変わらせました。そうして生まれた複数の作品が、店内各所に展示されています。

クリエイティブな対話

このコラボレーションは、アーティストである鈴木美緒氏と、コレクターかつ素材の継承者である「Les Manufactures Nationales – Sèvres & Mobilier National」という二つの創造的視点による対話であると同時に、時間、文化、記憶との関わり方を共有する両者の関係性を映し出しています。
